Karolina Berkell-Kirk
Karolina Berkell-Kirk was born and bred in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2002 at the age of 19 she left her homeland bound for London, following a dream she had had since the day she picked up her first camera at the age of 12. She spent the next 8 years of her life living in the UK. Her love for film lead her to the University of Plymouth to study her first year in BA Media Arts. Then moving on to Napier University/Screen Academy Scotland to successfully complete the last two years of a BA in Film and Photography, majoring in Film.
Along with creating and working on some brilliant student short films at university, in her spare time she voluntarily worked as the Event Organiser for, and promoted, the monthly short film festival "Future Shorts" in Edinburgh. This is a great display of her dedication and passion toward the film industry.
As soon as Karolina graduated with her film degree, she was back to London where she scored her first film job at the very successful post production house, Molinare. They have famously produced some of the most award winning films in the past years, such as the documentary ''Man on Wire'' and the Oscar winning drama ''The Kings Speech''. Karolina's role there was as an Assistant Head Runner, co-managing a group of runners providing both for the post production facilities and for the only studio in London.
That same year in 2008, Karolina married her Australian partner and set sail for Melbourne, Australia. This is where Karolina's Australian film career kicked off.
Ironically the first short film she worked on in Australia was the multiple award winning short film, ''I Can Speak Swedish''. Her role in this production was Continuity and Stills Photographer. Also while in Melbourne she worked as a Set Dresser on the feature film ''Taj'' and award winning short film ''Celestial Avenue''; Art Director in the short film ''Auditioning Fanny''; Camera Operator on a Corporate/Educational film "The Song Room"; and Extras Co-ordinator/3rd A.D. in the feature film ''The Dream Children''.
Karolina has now based herself in Brisbane, Queensland. Her most recent film job was on the short film/trailer, Rarity as Continuity/Script Supervisor. Plans to shoot the feature film version of Rarity later on in 2011 are confirmed.
Aside from her freelance activities, Karolina actively dedicates her spare time to working on her own scripts and is looking forward to once again direct her own short films and eventually move on to features.
